Ecología y Gestión de Fauna Silvestre

El Grupo de Investigación en Ecología y Gestión de Fauna Silvestre estudia las relaciones entre distintas actividades humanas, como las agrícolas y cinegéticas, y la fauna silvestre (incluyendo especies de caza), como vía para llegar al uso sostenible de los recursos. Adicionalmente, estudia los factores asociados a la conservación de la fauna en áreas donde la caza es un uso del suelo importante (como las áreas agrícolas). Estudia los factores asociados a los cambios poblacionales de las especies de caza menor (incluyendo cambios en prácticas agrícolas, gestión de la depredación y de la caza), así como las relaciones entre caza, actividades agrícolas y conservación de especies cinegéticas y de otras especies de fauna de ambientes agrícolas. Finalmente, el grupo pretende desarrollar medidas de gestión con base científica que, una vez transferidas a los gestores de fauna, permitan la recuperación y el uso sostenible especies de caza menor, beneficiando también a la biodiversidad en los hábitats donde ocurren. También realiza investigaciones que pueden ayudar en la resolución de conflictos sociales y ecológicos tales como los que surgen entre la gestión cinegética y agrícola (como el control de depredadores para la caza o el de especies plaga para limitar daños agrícolas) y la conservación de la biodiversidad.
