The exhibition "Hunting, an evolving challenge" opens its doors

    The exhibition is part of the commemorative program for the 20th anniversary of the Institute for Research in Hunting Resources (IREC) and takes a tour of the 400.000-year history of hunting


    On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Instituto de Investigación en Recursos Cinegéticos (IREC – CSIC, UCLM, JCCM) is celebrating its successful career through a full program of commemorative acts and events. After the organization of the I Iberian Congress of Science Applied to Hunting Resources (CICARC) Last July, on December 12, the exhibition "Hunting, an evolving challenge”, which aspires to become the star informative event on the hunting world and the science developed by IREC to promote sustainable hunting.

    The exhibition "Hunting, an evolving challenge” intends to immerse the visitor in the world of hunting through a journey through its 400.000 years of history.

    The exhibition has been a reality thanks to the joint collaboration of IREC, the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (JCCM), the Diputación of Ciudad Real, the Artemisan Foundation, the Interprofessional Association of Game Meat (ASICCAZA) and the Provincial Museum of Ciudad Real.

    The presentation ceremony included the intervention of the President of the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board, Emiliano García-Page, who stood out the value of hunting as a key activity for the socioeconomic development of the region, especially from its rural areas, and remarked the essential role of science for the resolution of environmental, health, technological and socio-economic conflicts associated with the practice of hunting and its management.

    "Hunting, an evolving challenge” aims to immerse the visitor in the world of hunting through a tour of its 400.000 years of history. Through the use of original pieces, explanatory panels, murals, scenery, display cases and projections, the exhibition ranges from Paleolithic hunter-gatherer man to modern hunting today.

    Throughout this journey through time, he deals with aspects such as the ecological and evolutionary bases of predation, the transformation of the arts and technologies linked to the hunting activity, the domestication of the dog and the art of falconry, the use of products derived from hunting and the socioeconomic and cultural importance of the hunting activity, as well as the actors or professions of the hunting world.

    Furthermore, it addresses the importance of hunting as a tool for the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity and of science as the basis for hunting management in line with the conservation of our natural heritage.
