Game Resources and Wildlife Management

The Research Group in Game Resources and Wildlife Management studies the relationships between different human activities, such as agriculture and hunting, and wildlife (including game species), as a way to reach the sustainable use of resources. Additionally, it studies the factors associated with the conservation of fauna in areas where hunting is an important land use (such as agricultural areas). It studies the factors associated with the population changes of small game species (including changes in agricultural practices, management of predation and hunting), as well as the relationships between hunting, agricultural activities and conservation of game species and other wildlife of agricultural environments. Finally, the Research Group in Game Resources and Wildlife Management intends to develop scientifically-based management measures that, once transferred to wildlife managers, allow the recovery and sustainable use of small game species, also benefiting biodiversity in the habitats where they occur. It also conducts research that can help in the resolution of social and ecological conflicts such as those that arise between hunting and agricultural management (such as the control of predators for hunting or that of pest species to limit agricultural damage) and the conservation of biodiversity.
