Science week 2009

Our goal was to make a recreation with the public, of the work developed by the researchers, in a research project:
Presentation of the study area, where field studies are conducted. Simulation of the sampling techniques used in the field and in the laboratory.

We designed an institutional STAND showing the different research disciplines representing the IREC: hunted species, field surveys, work in the laboratory, etc...

    What made the visitor?

    • identification of ungulates, behavior, morphology of feces.
    • identification of Mediterranean plants, determination of browsing, herbaceous and Bush vegetation transects.
    • identification of plant tissue under a microscope.

    Estimated participation:

    • Stand visited by: 1,100 students of that and high school as well as students, teachers and the General public.
    • Workshop conducted by: 415 students of that, high school.

    Workshop "Now, Research you!"

Topic: The scientific method: approach to work developed within a research project focused on ecology and the behavior of native animals such as deer and its interrelation with other exotic animals: Barbary sheep and Mouflon.

    General Coordination: Almudena Delgado Palominos

Scientific coordination: Jorge Cassinello Roldán, María Miranda, Marisa Sicilia. Grupo of research in ecology, behavior, and conservation biology in ungulates.

Coordination didactic activity: Pilar López García Gallo (MNCN)

    Monitor workshop: Maria Miranda
One of our commitments to society is to publicize our research work covering aspects relating to hunting species and their environment.

Within this facet of diffusion and dissemination of scientific culture, we present in the 9th week of the science of Castilla - La Mancha, a didactic workshop "now you research".

    Open day

Dates: 9 and 13 November - visit to the laboratory of ecology.
Visit given by: Ignacio Cristobal. Technician of laboratory of the research group in ecology, behavior, and conservation biology in ungulates.

Dates: 10 and 11, Noviembre-Visitto the laboratory of Microbiology and toxicology.
Visit given by: Dr. Dolores Vidal Roig. Animal Health: Safety in game meat. Dr. Rafael Mateo Soria. Deputy Director of IREC. Animal health. Line of toxicology.

Visit to the laboratory of Ecology: the study of the diet of wild herbivores

Estimated participation: 30 2nd Bachillerato students.

    Recommended level: Secondary education

    Methodology and development

The goal of the microhistologica practice is to know what has eaten a wild herbivore and so their feces analysis to study the remains remaining undigested in them.

Visit to the laboratory of Microbiology and toxicology

Estimated participation: 50 2º Bachillerato students.

    Recommended level: Secondary education

    Methodology and development

The aim of the visit is to present the work carried out by the researchers and the technical support staff, as well as the techniques used and the material needed to carry out its work.

    • 1. introduction
      • 1.1 approach to the study of the toxicological effects of substances of different origin in wildlife.
    • 2. the pollution in game meat.
      • 2.1. the food safety in humans.
      • 2.2. laboratory techniques used.
      • 2.3. pollutants: pesticides, fertilizers, Ammo's lead, etc.

    Informative lectures

Participation: 40 students of 2º Bachillerato.
    Level: Secondary education, high school
Place: Hunting resources Research Institute. Assembly Hall
    Approximate duration: 45 min.

Evolution = revolution: Darwin and his "sources"

Dates: 10 and 12 of November.
We know Darwin during the days of his adventures on the HMS Beagle, his curiosity and passion for nature, and find out why he kept secret his theory for more than 21 years.
Given by: Dr. Lucia Galvez. Research Group on ecology, behavior and conservation biology on ungulates.

    "Scientific knowledge and research methodology"

    Dates: on November 13.
It's a speech of introduction to the scientific research. Through examples, we will see how knowledge is acquired through the scientific method, which features have this knowledge, how spreads usually and the tasks that the scientists carried out in various fields to generate this knowledge.
Given by: Dr. José Manuel Pérez de la Lastra. Animal health.
