
Julian Garde is Graduate in veterinary y Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). Since 2003 she is Catedrático from the University of the Animal Production area at the Higher Technical School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineers of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). Between 2011 and 2020 he held the position of Vice Chancellor for Research and Scientific Policy of the UCLM, being responsible for the management of the Campus of International Excellence in Energy and Environment (CYTEMA) and the Doctoral Studies at UCLM. He is currently the Chancellor of the UCLM.
In the field of university management, it has been Associate Dean of Investigation, and academic secretary of the Higher Technical School of Agricultural and Forestry Engineers of the UCLM, deputy director (1999-2003) y Director (2003-2004) of Institute for Research in Hunting Resources (IREC – CSIC-UCLM-JCCM). In addition to holding various management positions at the national level, Julián is academic number of the Royal National Academy of Veterinary Sciences of Spain since 2006, and Member of the Royal National Academy of Doctors of Spain since last year 2017.
As a researcher, Julián is head of a research team uninterruptedly financed by the National Research Plan (now state) since 1997, currently accumulating 4 six-year research periods. His work as an integral part of the current Research Group in Health and Biotechnology (SaBio) of IREC has focused fundamentally on the semen cryopreservation and artificial insemination in wild ungulates, the study of the inbreeding and reproductive parameters in wild ungulates, the endocrinology basic and reproductive control of wild ungulates and the reproductive ecology in ungulates. Julián was a member of the multidisciplinary research team that achieved the first birth by means of artificial insemination and the application of frozen semen, of an endangered gazelle specimen.
He is the author of more than 140 research papers in international journals of impact in various fields of veterinary science, ecology, animal science and reproductive biology, including several contributions published in the journal Science. Furthermore, he is the author of various chapters in books, monographs and invited reviews in impact magazines and director of more than 15 doctoral theses. Julián is also a promoter partner of a technology-based company (spin-off) specialized in biotechnology and health: SABIOTEC.
