Hunting Resources and Wildlife Management

This group focuses on the study of the relationship between human activities, such as farming and hunting, and wildlife, as sustainable use of natural resources. Additionally, the group studies factors associated to wildlife conservation in areas where hunting is important (e.g. farming areas). They also study the factors associated with population changes in small game (including changes in agricultural uses, predator control and other game management tools), as well as the relationships between hunting, farming activities and conservation of game and farming species. Ultimately, the aim of the group´s research is to develop science-based management measures which, once transferred to wildlife management, allow to recover game species populations, benefiting also the biodiversity in the habitats where they occur. Also they develop research that may help in the resolution of social and ecological conflicts such as those arising between wildlife management for game or farmland benefits (e.g. predator control or control of pest species to minimize crop damage) and the conservation of biodiversity.
